Car Insurance in Ontario for new residents

I haven’t posted for a few days. Still here. Still packing...

I just spent the morning visiting the Driver License Bureau to get the car title, and the Criminal Court Complex to get a complete copy of our driving record in Florida. Don’t ask me why the driving records are available at the Criminal Court Complex and not the Driver License Bureau.

We just paid off the car – yippee! In order to import the car to Canada we needed the title. The only way to get the title was to pay off the car. When we leave the US, we have to stop on the US side to “export” the car, before we “import” the car on the Canadian side. Fun.

New resident to Ontario tip regarding car insurance.

We have absolutely no driving history in Canada. We will get a better rate of insurance if we take a copy of our complete driving history in Florida.

So, if you are thinking of moving to Ontario, and have a good driving record, get a copy of your complete driving history before you leave, and save on car insurance.
